The existing one serves a link between 3 terminals in southern part (plus express train terminal) with northern side where Terminal B was opened last spring. It goes in a tunnel that has been dug under the operating air field for the time in aviation industry.
The need for the one (this time aboveground) is due to a new terminal C which is under construction (the first phase of the terminal is to be commissioned this year, phase 2 - in 2022). The capacity of existing people mover wasn't sized for Terminal C as the airport planned to build an additional spur track for the express train. But now a new people mover is considered as a cheaper option.
This would be a 4th project for Doppelmayr in Moscow - last year they've launched the first people mover, this year they will commission a fancy gondola in an amusement park plus in 3 years they plan to build a 3S to connect 2 metro stations (currently the concession agreement is published as an open bid until the end of April for formal reasons)
Here is the layout of the terminals in Sheremetyevo and the route of the existing people mover:

These photos seem to be from 2013 )
Actually this lift was built by the government to meet IOC requirement for having two independent access roads to Olympic stadiums (at Snowboard, Freestyle and Alpine venues) - 3S seemed a cheaper and more environmental friendly solution compared to a paved road to scale 400 m of elevation.
After the Olympics it became useless for the government but last October they issued a decree an agreement to hand it over to Rosa Khutor resort which will help it to keep up with an increased traffic at 3 existing Rosa Khutor gondolas. So hopefully it will be running again in the future.
You can find this lift at streetmaps here (photos from 2017).
Regarding a D-Line lift the construction will start as soon as the winter season is over (mid May).
This lift would go along the existing TSD6B at south face which is overly popular and is too busy even at low season. It would be a 2 km long TCD10 with 600 m of vertical which will add 2400 pph capacity to this sector.

Sochi has two 3S ropeways.
Red one is the Psekhako.
Green one with two sections as it seems has never been in operation since the Olympics.
And from the pictures it seems the "Gare Aval" of that green one.

Is there any documentation of 3S lift in Moscow too see?

You can find tender docs here but there is not much technical details and it seems that Appendix with specs hasn't been updated from the version when they considered TCD instead of 3S. Currently the plan is to have a 3S with only two towers.

And there is something absolutely amazing that we can finally check: Alpika is now opened for skiing!! We can even visit the 5-segment Doppelmayr Combi 4/8 line... amazing

The funicular in this location had been operating from 1896 until 1926 when it was dismantled due to lack of ridership and was only 100 m long with vertical less than 30 m.
However it was popular for city visitors who access it by a tram from the river boat terminal at lower city.
No final design apporved yet but it seems to be an inclined lift rather than a conventional funicular with 1 cabin for 40 passangers.
Here are some photos of historic funicular:

Nizhny Novgorod already has a 3,6 km gondola across Volga river.
