Well, it seems that since the lift is operated by Mtatsminda park the approach is similar to funicular operation: Metrocards won't work, only Park's own cards. I read the news here.
By the way, do you know whether Tabori hills gondola will start operation this winter? It seems that the start up tests were conducted a while ago and now gondolas are parked at Paragraph hotel station.
